343 Studies Prove Organic Food Is Not Just A Marketing Gimmick

Some people continue to question whether organic produce is actually any better for your health. Though it seems clear that fewer pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, and other unnatural additives would be better for anyone’s health, many people still believe that organic is no better than regular food.

Marketers are mostly to blame. “Low-fat” foods have turned out to be awful. Agave may actually be even worse than sugar. And “all natural” doesn’t really mean anything in most cases.

Thankfully a new report from the Newcastle University has concluded that organics are actually much more nutritious than non-organic fruits, vegetables, meat, and grains. After reviewing 343 studies, the researchers concluded that organic foods contain more nutrients and fewer harmful chemicals.

4 Differences Between Organic and Non-Organic

1. Traditional Methods

Organic crops are grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, are not genetically modified, and are generally grown in a more natural way. They help to promote biodiversity and conserve natural resources. They work with nature, rather than run against it. Not surprisingly, this method has turned out to produce better food.

2. Stricter Rules and Regulations

To go along with traditional methods, the USDA makes sure that organic food adheres to specific guidelines. Other food is free to contain persistent pesticides, GMOs, antibiotics, growth hormones, sludge, and irradiation.

Organic food, on the other hand, must be free of all those things and undergoes inspections to make sure that it is. Farmers must be certified, treat their animals well, and follow legal restrictions.

3. More Antioxidants

Because conventionally grown plants have access to synthetic fertilizers, they end up producing more starch and sugar, and fewer nutrients. Since they are sprayed with pesticides, they also don’t have to muster natural defenses to bugs.

Part of nature’s defense to bugs, however, is antioxidants. As a result, organic foods can contain 20-40% more antioxidants, which are body uses to fight heart disease, cancer, and oxidative damage.

4. Fewer Toxins

An organic apple has roughly one quarter of the pesticide residue of a regular one. In other words, when you bite into an apple you are eating four times more chemicals. Plus, any pesticides which are used on organic food must also be organic.

Conventional food is also more likely to contain heavy metals like cadmium, which is considered to be one of the most toxic elements on earth.

Better for Your Health

The facts are clear that organic food is in fact demonstrably better for your health. Conventionally grown foods contain fewer nutrients and more harmful chemicals. They are grown in an unnatural way and one that is not benefiting anyone’s wellbeing.

Organic foods, on the other hand, contain more nutrients, especially antioxidants, and way fewer pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, and other chemicals. As a result, they are much more wholesome and nutritious.

Sadly, they continue to be more expensive than the mass-produced, conventional foods. Buying organic on a budget can still be tough, but at least you now know for certain that you are paying for something that is actually much better for your health.
